A FASCINATING PLACE THAT, DESPITE ITS PROXIMITY TO MODERNITIES, MANAGES TO MAINTAIN A DETACHMENT FROM THEM. ITS COLORS AND OLD-TIME ATMOSPHERE EVOKE THE PAST, TAKING US BACK TO A TIME WHEN BRIANZOLI MILLERS AND MERCHANTS SANK THEIR ROOTS ALONG THE BANKS OF LAMBRO RIVER.
IN HISTORICAL BRIANZA, DURING THE AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN DOMAIN, NAPOLEON’S TROOPS SETTLED IN THIS BUSTLING REGION, LEAVING AN INDELIBLE IMPRINT, AS EVIDENCED BY SOME VERANO COURTS THAT STILL BEAR THE NAMES GIVEN DURING THAT TIMES. IT IS IN THIS AREA THAT BIROT CAME TO LIFE, IN A PLACE RICH OF MILLS AND WEAVING MILLS.

BEFORE BECOMING THE TRATTORIA WE KNOW TODAY, THE BUILDING WAS A BUREAU, THE OFFICE WHERE TAXES WERE COLLECTED. THROUGH THE TIME, THE NAME WAS ADAPTED BY VERANO PEOPLE AND BY BRIANZA DIALECT, TURNING INTO “BIROT.” IN 1954, LUCA’S GRANDFATHER, ANDREINO, PURCHASED THIS HISTORIC BUILDING AND OPENED THE DOORS OF WHAT WOULD BECOME A TRATTORIA WELL EMBEDDED IN THE COMMUNITY


AT FIRST, THE MENU INCLUDED SIMPLE DISHES SUCH AS SMALL FISH, COOKED SALAMI, MORTADELLA, TRIPE AND, OF COURSE, CASSOEULA DURING WINTER. IN 1984, AFTER THE GRANDFATHER, LUCA’S FATHER, LUIGI, TOOK THE REINS OF THE RESTAURANT AND, SINCE 2006, LUCA HAS CONTINUED THE FAMILY TRADITION, BRINGING A TOUCH OF INNOVATION
TODAY LUCA KEEPS ALIVE THE TYPICAL BRIANZOLE RECIPES ALWAYS BRINGING SOMETHING NEW AND SEEKING A BALANCE BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNITY.
LUCA IS WORKING TOGETHER WITH HIS SISTER MICAELA, WHO MANAGES THE DINING ROOM, AND HIS MOTHER ROSA,ALWAYS ATTENTIVE TO EVERY DETAIL. THE BIROT HAS THUS BECOME NOT ONLY A RESTAURANT, BUT A PLACE OF CONVIVIALITY AND PASSION
